Music Lessons

As a recent article from the Globe and Mail states: “Music is an essential part of a child’s cognitive development.” Progressive Academy believes that a balanced school program includes exposure to the arts, including music. Every student attending Progressive Academy gets regular class music lessons as a part of the regular school day. In addition to this we offer private music lessons in a variety of instruments that students can take during the day.

If you are interested in music lessons for your child, please fill in the form below. Students may join the program at any point in the year; however, the program is filled on a first-come first-serve basis. Once the form has been sent in, Reinette will contact you with information. In the meantime, take some time to meet our music teachers and take a look at the Frequently Asked Questions page.

All lessons run from mid-September to June.

All regular lessons run from mid-September to May, keeping June available for make-up lessons, and leaving enough time available for all students to complete their 34 lesson package.

Keep in mind you are signing up for a year of lessons, the lessons are considered a package where the lump sum payment is split across 9 months. Your scheduled spot is secured in a music teacher’s schedule.  If a student misses a lesson by choice (like taking a holiday during regular school hours), the music teacher will spend that student’s time slot working on a lesson activity to upload to a shared document.  To read more about our policies, take the time to read through the FAQ page linked above. Thank you for being respectful of our music teachers’ time! We look forward to a great year of music making ahead.

They will have access to a variety of different instruments including piano, ukulele, percussion, and voice to start to build an understanding of different musical concepts. The students will pick a specific instrument to practice and play in their year-end showcase. The Junior Kindergarteners will have a 20 minute private lesson once a week and they will have an opportunity to participate in a daytime student showcase for their classmates and parents at the end of the year

Students will have the opportunity to participate in the year-end recital. Drum sticks are available for purchase through Progressive Academy.
